“I had a lucid dream… I followed a man down the streets of L.A. I could feel how lonely he was, and as I followed him, I realized that he was a fallen angel… and he loved a prostitute.”
One year ago today, many people came into my life. One year ago today, the auditions for They Live Among Us began.
There is not one person that has had the courage and tenacity to step into this gamble of a project that I do not owe everything to. Thanks be, in alpha order, to Allen, Brittani, David, Don, Erik, Galen, Geoff, Ivet, James (Jami’s), Jasmine, Jessica, Justin, Kendra, Marcia, Nina, Patrick, Randy, Rolf, Silvio and Terence. You have rocked my world and I am indebted to each and every one of you. You have touched my life in so many ways. I will never be the same again.
I am crying as I write this. Literally. The tears are of joy, gratitude, and humility.
I simply want to say “thank you,” to all, including those on the other side of the lens, especially Brent, Briana, Ed, Gary, Kathryn, Mike, Nati and Steve. Your work is not unnoticed.
I remember that moment when I first typed FADE IN…
… and why I needed to tell this story. The frustration of the spec sale. The desire to make some thing happen, coupled with a journey to DTLA. The revelation of the dichotomy of a mega million dollar cathedral casting a shadow over Skid Row. I wondered how far those on Skid Row had fallen… and within hours, I found myself awash in a world of fallen angels, demons, spirits… and the mortals that they loved, all struggling to survive in a place known as the City of Angels.
One year ago today and tomorrow, actors traveled to North Hollywood and read my pages. Each and every one of them made me rethink the roles. Their work made me dig, down deep. They made me a better writer – and a better human.
To the cast and crew – I thank you all for playing in this sandbox. To Ms. A, Al, B.J. and Tanya, Chris and Laveryl, Debbie, Hooky, James, Jeanne, Jenny John Lou, John M, Melody, Mom, Pattie, Peggy, Russell, Seth, Sid, Todd and Amber – this would not have happened without you, nor countless others who have offered their generous support… and your belief. To all of the backers, I am so grateful for your belief and your support. I will not disappoint.
I think Dad would have dug it.
I think Blake would have, too.
I promise that I will not stop breathing until I bring this to completion. It is what I live for.
I send you all love and gratitude.
HRH, Princess Scribe
Thanks to D. Jordan Knight for the gorgeous poster.
